Leaves with cleistocarps of powdery mildew are dried in the shade and kept in paper bags at low temp. Some of the leaves are scattered on sown plots in autumn. A spore suspension is prepared by soaking 1 kg dry leaves in 20 l water for 10-12 h and diluting to 100 l. Plants are inoculated at tillering-leaf tube formation. To intensify infection short-stem rye lines with good foliage are sown along the border. At heading infection reaches 100%.
