A method of improving small 2-stroke engines for industrial and farm use. III: Mechanical losses

, : A method of improving small 2-stroke engines for industrial and farm use. III: Mechanical losses. Journal of the Society of Agricultural Machinery, Japan 41(3): 353-361

The mechanical losses in the eccentric and standard engines under examination (see AEA, 5, 4026) due to pumping work in the crankcase and friction in the transmission etc. are analyzed. The losses due to pumping varied little at speeds from 2000 to 4000 rev/min but increased considerably at higher speeds. Hysteresis of the shaft and energy transfer to the engine mounting were responsible for only small losses.
