To accelerate the production of interspecific hybrids, isolated protoplasts are treated before fusion with a 40-50% solution of polyethylene glycol at room temperature for 15-25 min. They are then soaked once or twice in a 0.16-0.17 M solution of Ca(NO3)2 and cultured after fusion on modified Murashige-Skoog medium until callus formation.Other references
