A method of registering the gnawing force of insects

, : A method of registering the gnawing force of insects. Zoologicheskii Zhurnal 60(1): 135-139

A method is described from the USSR for the registration and measurement of forces generated upon the contraction of the mandibles of insects. It is based on the transformation of mechanical values into electrical ones by means of an electronic transducer, a mechanotron. This device allows the maximum force of contraction to be measured and oscillograms (gnatograms) to be obtained for the dynamics of forces in time.
