A method to mass-produce decayed-wood termite bait blocks

, : A method to mass-produce decayed-wood termite bait blocks. Journal of the Georgia Entomological Society 16(1): 112-115

Laboratory tests carried out in the USA showed that large numbers of uniformly decayed blocks for use in bait-block tests for termite control could be produced by exposing 2.5- X 3.8- X 0.6-cm blocks of sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) sapwood to the Madison 617 isolate of Gloeophyllum trabeum for 6-8 weeks. The decay chambers were clear plastic crisper dishes measuring approximately 28- X 23- X 10-cm deep, each containing sweetgum shavings that had been moistened with 1% malt extract.
