A study on the nitrogen nutrition of apple trees. Seasonal variations in the nitrogen needed by the plant

, : A study on the nitrogen nutrition of apple trees. Seasonal variations in the nitrogen needed by the plant. Acta Horticulturae Sinica 8(4): 21-28

Nitrogen in the form of NO3- is only present in apple trees when there is ample N available. NH4+ nitrogen is present in smaller quantities than NO3- and is highest whilst the vegetative organs are being formed. Arginine is the main nitrogenous compound in the trees. An imbalance between N and C content may cause either vigorous or weak growth.
