Concentrations of sodium and potassium in the urine of dairy cows under field conditions

, : Concentrations of sodium and potassium in the urine of dairy cows under field conditions. Landwirtschaftliche Forschung 34(4): 185-193

In 4 trials at different farms 1198 spontaneous urine samples were collected from 30 dairy cows, all except 2 in stalls. Sodium and potassium in urine were influenced by time of day and to a less extent by milk yield, with which Na was correlated negatively. As Na increased, K declined. In all trials coefficients of variation were considerably more for Na than for K and declined as mean Na increased.
