Congenital candidiasis

, : Congenital candidiasis. American Journal of Diseases of Children 135(3): 273-275

Cases are reported in 2 infants, born to women who suffered from chronic candidal vaginitis during pregnancy. In the 1st case, Candida albicans was cultured from skin pustules, a catheter tip and blood culture. The infant died despite therapy with amphotericin B (0.1 mg/kg/day) and flucytosine (50 mg/kg/day). Postmortem examination revealed a disseminated infection. The 2nd infant suffered from cutaneous candidosis at birth and was treated with oral and topical nystatin.
