Environmental problems of siting and operating desalination plants in the United States

, : Environmental problems of siting and operating desalination plants in the United States. Desalination 30(1/2/3): 3

Environmental problems of desalination may result from excessive withdrawals of surface water and from indiscriminate discharge of brines differing in chemical character and temperature from ambient conditions. The nature and magnitude of the problem varies with the site of the facility, source of feed water, type of desalination process, and discharge practices.
