Establishment of alfalfa by conventional and minimum-tillage seeding techniques in a quackgrass-dominant sward

, : Establishment of alfalfa by conventional and minimum-tillage seeding techniques in a quackgrass-dominant sward. Agronomy Journal 72(6): 884-889

Delaying application of glyphosate from 2 to 16 May had no apparent effect upon control of Agropyron repens but did lead to a 52% reduction in density of lucerne seedlings and of 2nd yr lucerne plants in plots sown on 21 May 1977 using min. tillage. At the 1st harvest after sowing a delay in glyphosate application resulted in significantly lower forage yield (1.84 vs. 2.82 t/ha) and higher percentage CP (20.0 vs. 16.8%) for the 21 May and 4 June min. tillage sowings.
