Evaluation of different culture media for isolation of Leishmania donovani

, : Evaluation of different culture media for isolation of Leishmania donovani. Journal of Communicable Diseases 12(4): 188-191

Bone marrow aspirates from children with suspected L. donovani infection were inoculated into 3 different media. Parasites were detected in bone marrow smears from 19 of the patients. The highest rate of isolation (17 of 20) was obtained in semi-solid agar with 10 or 15% defibrinated rabbit blood at pH 7.4, and promastigotes were detected earlier in this medium.
