From a stables where all foals had regularly developed diarrhoea, sometimes with rickets, and four deaths, the fourth foal to die was submitted for laboratory examination. the only gross finding was distension of the intestine with yellowish, viscous chyme, which exhibited rotavirus particles under electron microscopy.
