Forest resistance to insect pests in relation to plant population patterns

, : Forest resistance to insect pests in relation to plant population patterns. Zeitschrift fuer Angewandte Entomologie 92(3): 217-224

On the basis of different olfactory and gustatory mechanisms of influencing phytophagous insects by food plants it is possible to use the Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) as a diversionary plant within cultures of Crimea pine (P. pallasiana). The essential lower resistance of the Scotch pine to Aradus cinnamomeus (Heteroptera), Blastophagus piniperda (Coleoptera), Rhyacrionia buoliana and Dendrolimus pini (Lepidoptera) prevents these insects from attacking the Crimea pine. Insect species under this method are not pests but indifferent members of the fauna.
