Improvement of glucose tolerance and blood lipids in elderly subjects given chromium-rich yeast

, : Improvement of glucose tolerance and blood lipids in elderly subjects given chromium-rich yeast. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 33(4): 916

For 6 weeks 24 elderly subjects on average 78 years old, including 8 mild insulin-independent diabetics, in 2 groups were given daily 9 g chromium-rich brewer's yeast (experimental) or chromium-poor torula yeast (control). Before and after the yeast diet was given, serum glucose and insulin response to 100 g oral glucose was estimated every 30 min for 2 h. Fasting serum cholesterol, total lipids and triglycerides were also estimated.
