Modification of an intermittent lighting program for laying turkey hens

, : Modification of an intermittent lighting program for laying turkey hens. Poultry Science 60(2): 482-484

Intermittent lighting was initiated 8 wk after turkey hens were exposed to stimulatory light of 14 h/day. The 1st intermittent lighting program consisted of 4 1-h light periods given at 0300-0400 h, 0800-0900 h, 1300-1400 h and 1600-1700 h. The 2nd intermittent lighting program consisted of 4 unequal length light periods at 0300-0400 h, 0800-1200 h, 1300-1400 h and 1600-1700 h for a total of 7 h of light. Nest egg production was numerically greatest in the 1st intermittent light program but not significantly greater than those maintained under 14 h light. Floor egg production was significantly (P < 0.05) greater in both of the intermittently lighted groups than in the 14 h lighted group.
