The late many-branched variety Belyi 6 the early Kievskii Mutant with limited branching, and the very early dwarf variety Start were studied during 1973-75. The earlier and shorter the variety, the less was its mean leaf area during the period of active photosynthesis, especially after flowering. Photosynthetic potential was 30-40% higher in Belyi 6 than in the other varieties but net photosynthetic production differed little among the varieties.
