Physiology of disease resistance of pearl millet against downy mildew disease

, : Physiology of disease resistance of pearl millet against downy mildew disease. Proceedings of the national seminar on disease resistance in crop plants December 22 and 23, 1980: 20-25

On the basis of (1) percentage reduction in zoospore germination and germ-tube elongation of Sclerospora graminicola in leaf sap from the respectively highly resistant, resistant, susceptible and highly susceptible Pennisetum americanum varieties J126D2B, MS7625, MS7373 and Tift 23D2B and (2) biochemical analysis of leaf sap, it is concluded that, compared with the other varieties, J126D2B contained much more bound phenol, Tift 23D2B contained less total lignin, varieties in the susceptible categories contained more sugars, particularly glucose, Tift 23D2B contained more arginine, glycine and leucine, J126D2B contained more phenylalanine and MS7625 contained more tryptophan.
