Plant breeding provides the best type of energy saving

, : Plant breeding provides the best type of energy saving. Tuinderij 20(8): 24-27

At the Institute for Horticultural Plant Breeding, Wageningen, Netherlands, 35 strains of greenhouse cucumber have been identified which grow well at 20 deg C day and 15 deg C night temperatures, but are of inferior quality. In several strains of frame cucumbers, harvest was advanced by 5-6 weeks when plants were grown at 20 deg C day and 12 deg C night temperatures.
