Reflections on the possible evolution of Belgian agriculture during the decade 1980-1990

, : Reflections on the possible evolution of Belgian agriculture during the decade 1980-1990. Revue de l' Agriculture 34(6): 1465-1480

Aware of the difficulties and dangers of using forecasting, especially when applied to agriculture, the article examines the future of Belgian agriculture, and likely developments in the most critical areas: the means, structures and techniques of production; it also considers energy and food supplies. The study shows technological progress implies specialization and economies of scale as well as a reduction in labour. Capital inputs need to increase to attain optimal structure.
