The Forest Research Institute's work on cable logging: a review of its main findings

, : The Forest Research Institute's work on cable logging: a review of its main findings. New Zealand Journal of Forestry 24(1): 76-84

The survey already noticed of the New Zealand logging industry in 1974 was supplemented by 8 work studies. The cost of cable logging in steep country was about double that of conventional flat-country logging for both clear felling and thinning. About half of these costs were contributed by the hauler (high-lead or skyline) operation which was affected primarily by load size, tree size, felling method and experience of crews.
