The activity of a low temperature lipase in the larvae of Sarcophaga bullata (Diptera: Sarcophagidae)

, : The activity of a low temperature lipase in the larvae of Sarcophaga bullata (Diptera: Sarcophagidae). Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, B 68(2): 325-328

Minced larval tissues of Sarcophaga bullata Parker, were stored at -20 deg C for periods up to 14 days. After cold storage, analysis of lipid classes revealed a decrease in the amount of triacylglycerols and an increase in the amount of free fatty acids. The change in the proportions of larval triacylglycerols and fatty acids was shown to be the result of enzymatic activity persisting at -20 deg C.
