The effect of dietary inclusions of protein on milk secretion and nitrogen retention in cows given silage-barley diets

, : The effect of dietary inclusions of protein on milk secretion and nitrogen retention in cows given silage-barley diets. Proceedings of the Nutrition Society 39(3): 62A

In a duplicated 3 X 3 Latin square design trial with 28-day periods 12 Ayrshire cows in mid-lactation were given diets containing grass silage treated with formic acid at 60% and concentrates at 40% of DM. Concentrates were mineralized barley, barley + soyabean oilmeal, or barley + groundnut oilmeal, with N content 19.3, 35.3 and 30.9 g/kg DM; diets were restricted according to estimated energy requirements.
