, : Virulence of Erwinia amylovora and its influence on the determination of fire blight resistance of pear cultivars and seedlings. Canadian Journal of Plant Pathology 3(4): 187-190

Nine strains of E. amylovora isolated from apple and pear trees growing in southern Ontario were injected into shoots of four cultivars. No distinct differences were noted in cultivar response other than those attributed to variation in virulence of the strains. Three strains representing the range of virulence were used to inoculate young trees of eight progenies derived from crosses of Bartlett (Williams' Bon Chretien) and Kieffer as females, with Old Home, HW601, Mac and Comice as males.
