This article outlines social conditions and attitudes prevalent in rural parts of Austria, as seen through the eyes of some 2000 young people. Their answers to questions about home and family life, education and work, free time, beliefs and morality etc. are synthesized into a general picture which is more optimistic than might have been expected.
