Shell morphology of eggs from hens infected or challenged with egg drop syndrome adenovirus

, : Shell morphology of eggs from hens infected or challenged with egg drop syndrome adenovirus. Untersuchungen zur Schalenmorphologie von Huhnereiern nach Infektion und Belastungsinfektion mit dem Virus des Egg Drop Syndrom 76: 96

A reflectometric method was used to assess the colour intensity of egg shells, and their surface structure was evaluated by visual inspection. In a preliminary study, egg shells from normal hens at 22 weeks of age showed white spots, compared with brown spots on eggs from 78-week-old hens. Eggs from hens infected with EDS virus had more light-coloured shells than normal, and surface alterations were found from three weeks after infection.
