Demonstration in vitro of toxic interactions between Ustilago scitaminea Syd. and sugarcane calluses; effect of two growth factors on the observed phenomena

, : Demonstration in vitro of toxic interactions between Ustilago scitaminea Syd. and sugarcane calluses; effect of two growth factors on the observed phenomena. Agronomie 3(7): 629-634

On placing young infected sugarcane leaf tissues on a modified Murashike-Skoog medium with 2,4-D callus tissues were distinguished from fungus-free callus tissues by reduced growth and different response to the kinetin/2,4-D balance of the medium. The inhibitory effect of the fungus was confirmed by placing it at some distance from the callus in the same Petri dish. On testing different genotypes of the host no linkage was found between the phenomenon and susceptibility of the whole plant.
