The parasites of freshwater and marine invertebrates comprise 2 main groups: those with a life cycle entirely spent in the invertebrate (including helmimths and protozoa) and those, mainly helminths, for which the invertebrate is an intermediate host. The work carried out at the Leningrad University in the past 25 years was concerned mainly with the 2nd group of parasites.
