Iron-59 extrinsic tag and whole body scanning in human iron absorption studies

, : Iron-59 extrinsic tag and whole body scanning in human iron absorption studies. Philippine Journal of Nutrition 36(2): 58-68

The 16 men 21 to 55 years old took a test meal of rice, mung beans and banana, or another including some pork, each typical of Philippines diet and labelled with 59Fe as ferric chloride mixed with the rice, or they took a reference dose of iron 3 mg as ferrous sulphate with 59Fe. After 14 days the absorption of 59Fe was measured using a whole-body scanner.
