Molasses: additional income for planters

, : Molasses: additional income for planters. Bangkok Bank Monthly Review 25(6): 220-223

Thailand's molasses exports rose from 245 846 t (valued at baht 363.5 million) in 1980 to 927 422 t (value at baht 851.2 million) in 1982. Although the volume of exports decreased in 1983 and 1984, value has increased significantly because the world market price rose from $45.65/t in 1982 to $60.65/t in the following year. The government introduced a premium on molasses exports of baht 350/t in 1984 to tax the profits made by sugar mills as a result of world market price rises.
