Researches on the forzatura of lemon trees

, : Researches on the forzatura of lemon trees. Proceedings of the International Society of Citriculture, 1981 Volume 2: 520-521

"Forzatura" consists in stopping irrigation in summer to cause water stress, and resuming irrigation so that the trees flower again (the main flowering is in spring) and produce a crop of Verdelli lemons which ripen in about 1 year. Trials were carried out with 35-year-old Femminello lemon trees on sour orange in 1979 and 1980. Tensiometers were not suitable for measuring the soil water content as it decreased to 15-18% during forzatura.
