Somatostatin inhibition of insulin-hypoglycaemic effects in the honeybee in vivo, and cytochemical localization of a somatostatin-like antigen in the midgut and Malpighian tubules of the honeybee

, : Somatostatin inhibition of insulin-hypoglycaemic effects in the honeybee in vivo, and cytochemical localization of a somatostatin-like antigen in the midgut and Malpighian tubules of the honeybee. Comptes Rendus Hebdomadaires des Seances de l' Academie des Sciences, III 294(22): 1029-1034

Immunoreactive somatostatin was identified in the intestinal ephithelial cells and in the Malpighian tubules of the honeybee. Administration of somatostatin inhibited insulin-induced hypoglycaemia in honeybees and delayed the insulin action by 75 min. Hyper- and hypoglycaemic responses to injection of saline were also inhibited by somatostatin. The role of somatostatin in honeybee metabolism is discussed. (Chem. Abstr. 97: 175588c (1982).).F.B.
