The pharaoh ant, Monomorium pharaonis (Linnaeus) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)

, : The pharaoh ant, Monomorium pharaonis (Linnaeus) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae). Entomology Circular, Division of Plant Industry, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (256): 2

Notes are given on the morphology, distribution, economic importance, biology, detection and control of Monomorium pharaonis (L.), a major indoor pest in heated buildings such as private houses, bakeries, factories, offices and hospitals in Florida. It establishes colonies throughout a building and can transmit pathogens such as Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. Chemical control from the exterior is difficult, since an entire building needs to be treated.
