Application of the Gouy-Chapman and Stern models to soils with variable charge. Andosols

, : Application of the Gouy-Chapman and Stern models to soils with variable charge. Andosols. Anales de Edafologia y Agrobiologia 40(3/4): 479-487

Surface charge properties of samples of six horizons of an Andosol formed on phyllite in Navarre, Spain, were investigated by acid-base potentiometric titration in the presence of varying concentrations of electrolyte. The validity of the Gouy-Chapman and the Stern models for adsorption of H+ was examined. The C horizon was in agreement with the Gouy-Chapman model, owing to the presence of minerals with a constant surface charge, which is smaller at lower electrolyte concentrations.
