, : Blastobacter aminooxidans, a new bacterial species growing autotrophically on methylated amines. Mikrobiologiya 52(5): 709-715

Budding bacteria capable of autotrophic growth in the atmosphere of H2 + O2 + CO2 or in media with methylated amines were isolated from activated sludge. They are Gram-negative, immotile, yellow pleomorphic rods; they have protrusions but do not form rosettes. They were identified as B. aminooxidans. This new sp. oxidizes trimethylamine by dehydrogenase yielding dimethylamine and formaldehyde. Dimethylamine is oxidized by mono-oxygenase to methylamine and formaldehyde.
