S. alternata n.sp. from soil around the roots of Stenandrium dulce and Paspalum sp. from Argentina is described and figured. It is characterized by 6 longitudinal rows of finger shaped spines alternating with small triangular scales. It differs from the closely related S. racemispinosa by the shape of the spines and the number of head annules (2).
