Effect of paclobutrazol and analogs on growth, yield, fruit quality, and storage potential of 'Delicious' apples

, : Effect of paclobutrazol and analogs on growth, yield, fruit quality, and storage potential of 'Delicious' apples. Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science 111(3): 328-332

A post-bloom foliar application of 1500 or 3000 p.p.m. paclobutrazol (PB) increased flesh firmness but reduced seed number and fruit size at harvest. The following year, flowering was not affected but fruit set was increased. Decreases in terminal growth, leaf size, fruit L:D (length:diameter) ratio, fruit size, pedicel length and fruit soluble solids were also observed with the high PB rate. PB increased fruit flesh Ca and total yield, and retarded fruit ripening.
