Effect of season and hatchery technology on duck embryo mortality

, : Effect of season and hatchery technology on duck embryo mortality. Medycyna Weterynaryjna 42(3): 145-148

Records kept for 343 000 duck eggs hatched in different types of incubator under various disinfection procedures showed that hatchability was lower between February and September than during the rest of the year, regardless of incubator techniques. Between 0.5 and 5% of embryos died or failed to develop during the first six days of incubation. Deaths between 7 and 14 days were often due to bacterial infections, and the rate was lowest (8%) when an efficient method of egg disinfection was used.
