Mating behaviour and fertility in domestic chickens. I. Inbreeding

, : Mating behaviour and fertility in domestic chickens. I. Inbreeding. Applied Animal Behaviour Science 13(4): 371-381

Mating behaviour of and of the inbred line 420 of Single Comb White Leghorns was compared with that of randombred Minnesota Marker line fowls. Inbred approached significantly less frequently than did randombreds, and showed courtship waltzing, treading and tail bending significantly less frequently. There were no significant differences between inbred and randombred in the number of attempted mounts and the number of successful mounts.
