Optimum seed coat scarification and light treatment for the germination of Zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) seed

, : Optimum seed coat scarification and light treatment for the germination of Zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonica Steud.) seed. Journal of the Korean Society for Horticultural Science 26(2): 179-185

Z. japonica seeds scarified with 30% KOH for 25 minutes had 95.3% germination whereas untreated seeds did not germinate. Seeds scarified for shorter or longer times or with lower KOH concentrations had lower germination. Using NaOH, optimum germination occurred within a wider concentration range and greater time limits.
