Sodium and potassium fluxes and compartmentation in roots of atriplex and oat

, : Sodium and potassium fluxes and compartmentation in roots of atriplex and oat. Plant Physiology 78(3): 500-509

A. nummularia and oats were grown in nutrient solution containing 3 mM K with 0, 3 or 50 mM Na. With increasing Na, the cytoplasmic content, the plasma membrane influx and efflux and xylem transport of K decreased in the roots of both spp., while the K content of the vacuole decreased in A. nummularia but not in oats. Increases of Na also caused higher Na fluxes across the plasma membrane and higher cytoplasmic Na content in both spp.
