Utilizing heterosis in proso millet breeding

, : Utilizing heterosis in proso millet breeding. Selektsiya i Semenovodstvo, USSR (2): 15-17

Using 58 F1 hybrids, the yield components which were equal to or exceeded those of the better parent were determined. An analysis of the results indicated those hybrids which exceeded the better parent in 1-4 traits. None exceeded the better parent in 5 traits. The most important traits in yield formation in the F1 hybrids were degree of productive tillering, width of panicle, grain yield/main panicle and 1000-grain weight.
