Effect of ascorbic acid on malaria parasites Plasmodium falciparum in vitro and Plasmodium berghei in vivo

, : Effect of ascorbic acid on malaria parasites Plasmodium falciparum in vitro and Plasmodium berghei in vivo. Indian Journal of Parasitology 10(2): 185-188

Ascorbic acid (AA) was added to complete medium containing the chloroquine-sensitive P. falciparum strain FAN-5 to achieve final concentrations of 0.1 to 2.5 mg/ml culture and the cultures were then observed for 8 days for ring and schizont growth. Other cultures were treated with AA concentration of 0.3-0.9 mg/ml from day 8 to 15 of culturing to observe their gametocidal effect.

The first examples of pentanuclear heterotrimetallic [(LnNi)(2)Ru] [Ln(3+) = Gd (1) and Dy (2)] complexes were prepared and magnetostructurally characterized. They exhibit ferromagnetic interactions, leading to a high-magnetic-moment ground state.
