Feeding roots to cattle and sheep

, : Feeding roots to cattle and sheep. Leaflet, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, UK (P3117): 3

The feeding value of roots is determined mainly by the DM content, generally 10 to 20%. A change of 1% in DM content will affect the feeding value by 5 to 10%. Yield of DM and its energy values are important aspects of root feeding. This leaflet describes the characteristics, feeding value, storage losses and feeding precautions needed for the principal roots and root tops for cattle and sheep.
