F1 hybrids were produced by crossing families and inbreds (I2-I3) of Mshak 195 selected for cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS). In some F1 families all the plants were fertile, while in others male-sterile and semisterile plants were found. Complete male sterility was shown by progenies of 2 families with the petaloid type of CMS. The inheritance of CMS in the F2 was studied by within-family crosses of F1 hybrids with restored fertility.
