Mass mortality in salmon after antiparasitic treatment with trichlorphon

, : Mass mortality in salmon after antiparasitic treatment with trichlorphon. Norsk Veterinaertidsskrift 98(11): 885-887

In the treatment of salmon for the salmon louse Lepeophtheirus salmonis (Copepoda), the danger of overdosing with trichlorphon is illustrated by reports of two outbreaks in which mortality rates from 50-100% were reported in 30-37 g fish treated in water containing 280 g trichlorphon/ccsuperscript 3, and 200-300 g smolts treated at 170 g/ccsuperscript 3. In sea water, trichlorphon is hydrolysed to the much more potent dichlorvos.
