Pathological studies on the thyroid glands of calves in the early postnatal period in the area of the Plzen state veterinary institute

, : Pathological studies on the thyroid glands of calves in the early postnatal period in the area of the Plzen state veterinary institute. Veterinarni Medicina 33(2): 69-80

Between 1982 and 1985, 1062 thyroid glands from calves born in West Bohemia were examined grossly PM, and 140 of them were weighed and examined histologically. The average weight of thyroids in calves under a week old was 10.7 +or- 3.04 g, in calves 2 to 4 weeks old 10.9 +or- 4.29 g, and in adult cows 39.5 +or- 7.72 g. Congenital goitre was detected in 13 calves younger than one week, when the average thyroid weight reached 36.6 g, more than 3 times the average weight.
