Praziquantel as a treatment of cestodiasis in certain Sturnidae species

, : Praziquantel as a treatment of cestodiasis in certain Sturnidae species. Journal of Zoo Animal Medicine 17(4): 129-132

Leucopsar rothschildi at the Baltimore Zoo, USA, had had a persistent cestode infection since their arrival. Praziquantel (Droncit) (a 56.8 ml injectable solution) was evaluated on wild Sturnidae (Sturnus vulgaris) frequenting the zoo grounds and passing cestode ova and proglottides similar to those from the mynah birds. Praziquantel at 25 mg/kg bwt was then injected into a 6-month-old mynah and a 10-year-old Temenuchus cambodianus, both passing moderate numbers of cestode ova.
