Response of smaller European elm bark beetles to pruning wounds on American elm

, : Response of smaller European elm bark beetles to pruning wounds on American elm. Journal of Arboriculture 13(4): 102-104

In studies during 1982-84 in Shaker Heights, Ohio, American elms with <less or =>10% of crown symptoms of Ceratocystis ulmi were therapeutically pruned. Wounds were untreated or dressed with an asphalt base wound dressing. Inflight Scolytus multistriatus were trapped on the pruning wounds and approx. 10 ft away, at the same ht. Significantly more beetles were captured at pruning sites than away from such sites.
