Rural crisis and the reproduction of family systems. Celibacy as a problem in the Aragonese Pyrenees

, : Rural crisis and the reproduction of family systems. Celibacy as a problem in the Aragonese Pyrenees. Sociologia Ruralis 27(4): 263-277

This paper analyses the changing status of celibacy within the context of socioeconomic transformations in the Aragonese Pyrenees of Spain. Difficulties in adaption to a market economy and geographical isolation have resulted in increasing depopulation and a crisis within the system of reproduction of peasant families. Celibacy has become a sympton of this problem and has spread throughout the region.
