Salmonella enteritidis infection in broilers and broiler breeders

, : Salmonella enteritidis infection in broilers and broiler breeders. Veterinary Record 123(13): 350-350

An investigation of a broiler breeder flock which had been identified as contaminated with S. enteritidis phage type 4, as a result of tracing from diseased infected progeny, is reported. Examination of 14 birds (all over 40 weeks of age) from the flock showed no obvious clinical symptoms, although several were in poor body condition. PM examination showed 6 birds were in full lay with no gross abnormalities. S. enteritidis was isolated from the caeca of 2 of them.
